Scars is a multimedia installation - Video, Photographs and Audio - about people who are damaged or disfigured in private areas of their bodies and how they deal with moments of intimate revelation.
Artist Statement - Scars
Most of us wish to be as attractive as possible to potential lovers. Before seeing our partners-to-be, we put on nice clothes, brush our teeth, check our breath, fix our hair, try to be charming and otherwise seek to present ourselves in the best possible light.
If our efforts are successful, we will eventually get to the point where we have to take off our clothes. At this time, we will be subjected to the scrutiny of a person who is more or less a stranger, but whose judgment is vitally important to us at that instant. This is the moment when all our previous efforts can be undone if that person finds something to be disturbingly wrong with our appearance.
My project, "Scars," is about people who have been violently damaged or disfigured in private areas of their bodies and how they deal with this moment of intimate revelation.
